Overhead
projectors
Overhead projectors (OHP) are an alternative type of
projector to the LCD projectors. Overhead Projectors are the more traditional
presentation projector used to project an image from a transparency
on to a screen or wall. Sometimes these are also referred to as manual
slide projectors.
An overview of Overhead projectors:
The basic components of an overhead projector are
a large box that contains a bright lamp with a fan to facilitate cooling
& above this box is a lens that focuses the light from the bulb.
Above the box, typically on an extended arm, is a mirror and lens that
focuses and redirects (projects) the light forward instead of up. To
use OHP Projectors for display purposes, the information to be projected
must be printed on a see-through sheet known as a transparency. You
can make changes to the sheet whilst presenting and the changes will
be projected directly on to the screen.
Common Uses:
» Lectures
» Corporate level discussions
» Business conferences
Future:
Over the years, overhead projectors have been replaced
by modern devices like interactive whiteboards, LCD Projectors &
other such projection systems. Also, with the arrival of Microsoft PowerPoint
the task of creating presentations rather than handwritten transparencies
became a much simpler task. Also, the transparencies can be quite costly,
especially if colored.
Difference between over head projector presentations
& computer based presentation
» The presenter can make hand written changes
to a transparency whilst giving a presentation. This is especially useful
when delivering lectures & other such interactive discussions.
» The presentation on computer can be developed quite easily &
are very inexpensive. The transparencies for an OHP can be quite costly.
» Overhead projectors tend to be much larger and less portable
than laptops and other types of projector.
» The projectors bulbs need to be replaced quite regularly
